History
Young's started brewing at this site in the 1830 although brewing is believed to have been carried out on this site since 1581. It is as such the oldest site in continuous beer production in the UK. The brewery has been one of the main bastions of real ale during the keg and nitro-keg revolutions. Announced in May 2006 that by October 2006 the brewery would close and production would transfer to a new company, of which a 40% share will be owned, formed by a merger with Charles Wells to become Wells & Young's Brewing Co Ltd. Brewing ceased in September 2006 and was transferred to Bedford. Young's continues as a pub group.
Beers Brewed
We do not maintain a list of beers brewed by each brewery. There may be a list on the brewery's own website and we suggest you also visit the entry for Young & Co.'s Brewery PLC on the independent www.beermad.org.uk.
Regular Outlets
Young's own nearly 200 pubs mainly within the M25 London orbital motorway.

Footnote - Since the 1974 local government reorganisation there has been much controversy over many county boundaries. The links we provide cover both possibilities; Ceremonial Counties which are the areas for which a Lord-Lieutenant has been appointed; and Historic Counties (and their allied county boroughs) which represent the position before the 1974 re-organisation.
