Founded in 1987 at Unit 7, Foundry Lane Industrial Estate in Byker, Newcastle, it moved to the above location in 1991. The original owner sold the company and left to set up Four Rivers Brewing Company Ltd in 1996. Hadrian went into liquidation in 1997 and the original owner brought the site and plant back of the liquidators and moved Four Rivers into the site.

Since the 1974 local government reorganisation there has been much controversy over many county boundaries.
