History

Founded in 1827. It was taken over by Scottish & Newcastle in 1987. Most of Theakstons branded beers are brewed at Tyne Brewery however capacity at Masham may be used to produce one off beers. During October 2003 the brewery was taken over a number of members of the Theakston family, although it is understood that beer is also brewed elsewhere.

Beers Brewed

We do not maintain a list of beers brewed by each brewery. There may be a list on the brewery's own website and we suggest you also visit the entry for T & R Theakston Ltd on the independent www.beermad.org.uk.

Regular Outlets

Theakstons beers are widely available but there is no way of telling whether the beer originates from Masham or Newcastle. Generally Masham only delivers to within a 50 mile radius of the brewery. Most Old Peculiar is also brewed at Masham.

Footnote - Since the 1974 local government reorganisation there has been much controversy over many county boundaries. The links we provide cover both possibilities; Ceremonial Counties which are the areas for which a Lord-Lieutenant has been appointed; and Historic Counties (and their allied county boroughs) which represent the position before the 1974 re-organisation.
