History

The Isle of Skye Brewery opened in December 1995 with a 10 barrel brewplant that was a combination of new and refurbished equipment. On the building of the first road bridge between the mainland and Skye, the brewery took a major part in the campaign against the crossing toll for vehicles producing a special beer that was rolled across the bridge. A replacement 20 barrel plant was operational by summer 2004.

Footnote - Since the 1974 local government reorganisation there has been much controversy over many county boundaries. The links we provide cover both possibilities; Ceremonial Counties which are the areas for which a Lord-Lieutenant has been appointed; and Historic Counties (and their allied county boroughs) which represent the position before the 1974 re-organisation.
