History
This brewery opened in June 1980 in the old Hancock brewery buildings at Golden Hill, Wiveliscombe, Taunton, TA4 2NY which closed in 1959. Initially, the name Golden Hill Brewery was used but as the beers were all started with Exmoor, by 1988 the name had changed to Exmoor Ales. Over the years there has been a steady expansion in the brewery to match the success of the beers. In 2015, they relocated to their current location.

Since the 1974 local government reorganisation there has been much controversy over many county boundaries.
