Opened in the latter part of 1996, this brewery was envisaged as the first of a chain of small brewpubs owned by the parted company Fiddlers Inns. Brewing stopped in March 1999. Under new ownership the brewery reopened in the September of that year as Alcazar.

Since the 1974 local government reorganisation there has been much controversy over many county boundaries.
