History

This much-famed brewery was started off by Brendan Dobbin in May 1989 in the cellar of the Kings Arms pub, a large Victorian pub surrounded by a modern housing estate in Helmshore Walk, Chorlton-on-Medlock. Over the years the brewery expanded and some of the brewery equipment appeared in the backyard of the pub. Unfortunately, vandalism was always a problem and in 1993 a closed pub just around the corner from the original home was converted into a new home for the brewery. However, despite the equipment being more secure, vandalism continued to be a problem and the brewery was finally forced to close in August 1994. In 1995 Brendan brewed some of his beers at the The Millgate Brewery.

Beers Brewed

We do not maintain a list of beers brewed by each brewery. There may be a list on the brewery's own website. For historical information, we suggest you also visit the brewery page on the unfortunately no longer updated Beermad.

Since the 1974 local government reorganisation there has been much controversy over many county boundaries. The links we provide cover all areas possibilities: Ceremonial Counties which are the counties for which a Lord-Lieutenant has been appointed, Historic Counties (and their allied county boroughs) which represent the position before the 1974 re-organisation and Local Authority which represents the third tear District level.
