Initially founded as part of the brewing course at Sunderland University in 1994, the restrictive size of the plant caused the search for new premises. This resulted in the takeover of Hodge's Brewery in Summer 1997 and most production was moved to their plant at Castle Close Industrial Estate, Crook, County Durham. Moved again at the beginning of 2002 to 63 Back Tatham Street, Sunderland, launching there on 22nd March 2002 with the Hodges site closing. A 10BBL plant, previously used at Butterknowle Brewery, was used. Moved to Unit 1 West Quay Court, Sunderland Enterprise Park, Sunderland, SR5 2TE in Autumn 2011. In Autumn 2022 the brewery was taken over by Three Kings Brewery Ltd and all production moved there.

Beers Brewed

For historical information, we suggest you also visit the brewery page on the unfortunately no longer updated Beermad.

Since the 1974 local government reorganisation there has been much controversy over many county boundaries. The links we provide cover all areas possibilities: Ceremonial Counties which are the counties for which a Lord-Lieutenant has been appointed, Historic Counties (and their allied county boroughs) which represent the position before the 1974 re-organisation and Local Authority which represents the third tear District level.
