It was announced at Christmas 2001 that the US company Coors had agreed to pay £1.2 billion for the Carling Brewing division of Interbrew UK. The sale was completed in February 2002. This sale consists of the following breweries Bass Brewers, Bass Mitchells & Butlers, Museum Brewing Company. Bass Mitchells & Butler plant at Cape Hill closed by the end of 2002. In 2005 they merger with Molson of Canada to become Molson Coors UK. In 2010 the Museum Brewery was relaunched as The White Shield Brewery. In 2011 they took over Sharps Brewery and in 2015 took over Thomas Hardy Burtonwood. A keg only brewery exists in Tadcaster.
