History

Originally founded in 1899, this brewery became part of the Bass empire in 1927. It continued trading as a separate entity within the group until 1967 when brewing ceased. Since then the brand has been brewed at a number of Bass owned plants including Cardiff and Burton. By 2002 it was being brewed by Coors at their Burton plant. Brewing moved to Brains although Worthington White Shield is brewed by Heritage.

Since the 1974 local government reorganisation there has been much controversy over many county boundaries. The links we provide cover all possibilities: Ceremonial Counties which are the areas for which a Lord-Lieutenant has been appointed, Historic Counties (and their allied county boroughs) which represent the position before the 1974 re-organisation and Local Authority which represents the third tear District level.
