History
A number of upmarket wine and ale pubs were opened by Allied Brewers from the late 1970s into the 1980. Nicholson's branded beer was initially brewed for these pubs at Allied's Burton plant.

Since the 1974 local government reorganisation there has been much controversy over many county boundaries.
