Originally opened in 1865 by George Lorimer it was acquired by Vaux in 1946. Following closure threats it was purchased by a management buy-out team in May 1987. During the 1990s, two fires severely damaged the brewery but in both cases a full restoration of this fine Victorian brewery was completed. The brewery was taken over by Scottish Courage during 2004 however the Caledonian brands are still owned by the management of the original company. The brewery became part of Heineken in April 2008.
We do not maintain a list of beers brewed by each brewery. There may be a list on the brewery's own website. A crowd-sourced beer list is also available on the Untappd page for this brewery. For historical information, we suggest you also visit the brewery page on the unfortunately no longer updated Beermad.

Since the 1974 local government reorganisation there has been much controversy over many county boundaries. The links we provide cover all possibilities: Ceremonial Counties which are the areas for which a Lord-Lieutenant has been appointed, Historic Counties (and their allied county boroughs) which represent the position before the 1974 re-organisation and Local Authority which represents the third tear District level.
