History

Started brewing in September 1991 following the closure of the original Burts Brewery using the name Island Brewery. It was owned by Hartridges, a Hampshire based soft drinks manufacturer, and based in their Newport depot. Initially a 5BBL plant was used but this was added to giving a 25BBL capacity. They changed their name to the above in 1993. In Summer 1996, a separate brewpub was opened under the name Burts (Sandown Brewery) and by late 1996 all production was transferred their and the Newport site closed down.

Since the 1974 local government reorganisation there has been much controversy over many county boundaries. The links we provide cover all possibilities: Ceremonial Counties which are the areas for which a Lord-Lieutenant has been appointed, Historic Counties (and their allied county boroughs) which represent the position before the 1974 re-organisation and Local Authority which represents the third tear District level.
