History

The brewery that became Benskin's started brewing about 1720, moving to their High Street brewery around 1820. It became Benskin's in 1867. It was purchased by Ind Coope in 1957. Brewing ceased in Watford in 1972. Production of a product claiming to be Benskin's Best Bitter continued at a number of Allied plants. Production ceased in early 2002, at which point the beer was brewed by Coors for Interbrew UK at their Burton-upon-Trent plant.

Beers Brewed

We do not maintain a list of beers brewed by each brewery. There may be a list on the brewery's own website. For historical information, we suggest you also visit the brewery page on the unfortunately no longer updated Beermad.

Since the 1974 local government reorganisation there has been much controversy over many county boundaries. The links we provide cover all possibilities: Ceremonial Counties which are the areas for which a Lord-Lieutenant has been appointed, Historic Counties (and their allied county boroughs) which represent the position before the 1974 re-organisation and Local Authority which represents the third tear District level.
